Study Finds Cleft Lip Caused By Combination Of Genes And Environment
Publicado em 01 junho 2023
The study, published in Nature Communications, has revealed for the first time how genetic and environmental factors come together to form a cleft lip or palate in a developing foetus.
Cleft lip, with or without cleft palate, is the most common craniofacial malformation seen at birth, affecting one in 700 live births. It can have devastating consequences for babies and their families, as the infants may experience difficulty feeding, speaking, and hearing, and may be at increased risk for [...]

Study Evaluates The Impact Of The Pandemic On The Well-Being Of Brazilians
Publicado em 27 janeiro 2023Research by USP’s Institute of Psychology (IP) helped to quantify and detail something perhaps expected by common sense: in April 2021, when deaths from covid-19 in Brazil already reached 325,000, Brazilians reported feeling less happy and they were more prone to negative states, such as stress and nervousness, compared to 2018. The results also showed that the greater the number of known people who had covid-19, the lower the well-being of the participants. Those who had family members [...]ver notícia -

University Of São Paulo Shares Participation In Investigation With The James Webb Telescope On The Death Of A Star
Publicado em 17 janeiro 2023A few thousand years ago, a dying star gave rise to the Southern Ring Nebula (NGC 3132) in the constellation of Vela. As it lay dying, it blew its outer layers into space. This spawned a cloud, which is now illuminated by the light from what’s left of the star itself. The mystery behind the “crime scene” could be better investigated through some of the first images obtained by the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), launched in December 2021. The satellite’s lenses [...]ver notícia -

University of São Paulo: New mechanism associated with the worsening of covid-19 discovered
Publicado em 21 novembro 2022Researchers from USP discovered that the severe form of covid-19 is associated with an imbalance in an important signaling pathway of the immune system. In addition to helping to explain at a molecular level why part of those infected with sars-cov-2 develop potentially fatal systemic inflammation, the finding paves the way for the development of more specific therapies. In the study – funded by the State of São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and published in the journal [...]ver notícia -
