Oldest-known ant preserved in 113 million-year-old Brazilian fossil
Publicado em 26 de abril de 2025
April 25 (Reuters) - Scientists have identified the fossilized remains of the oldest-known ant - a winged insect with fearsome scythe-like jaws that lived about 113 million years ago during the age of dinosaurs and was preserved in limestone unearthed in northeastern Brazil.
The species, called Vulcanidris cratensis, is part of a lineage called hell ants - named for their demonic-looking jaws - that prospered in a wide geographical range during the Cretaceous Period but have no descendants [...]

Milky Way's black hole surrounded by strong magnetic fields
Publicado emAstronomers have discovered powerful magnetic fields spiralling around the black hole that sits at the centre of the Milky Way, the European Southern Observatory said Wednesday. A new image from the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) for the first time showed in polarised light a ring of magnetic fields surrounding the Sagittarius A* black hole. The fields are similar to those observed around the M87* black hole at the heart of the M87 Galaxy, which the ESO says suggests that strong magnetic [...]ver notícia -
Listening to music while driving may reduce stress caused by traffic
Publicado em 15 novembro 2019A small-scale research project suggests that stress when driving could be reduced by listening to instrumental music. Brazilian researchers from São Paulo State University recommend listening to classical or instrumental music to reduce stress behind the wheel. Researchers at the University of São Paulo (USP) in Brazil, Oxford Brookes University in the UK and the University of Parma in Italy also took part in the study. To test this hypothesis, researchers conducted an [...]ver notícia -
A shocking find : new high-voltage electric eels revealed
Publicado em 10 setembro 2019Call it a shock discovery: DNA research has revealed two entirely new species of electric eel in the Amazon basin, including one capable of delivering a record-breaking jolt. The findings are evidence, researchers say, of the incredible diversity in the Amazon rainforest — much of it still unknown to science — and illustrate why it is so important to protect a habitat at risk from deforestation, logging and fires. “In spite of all human impact on the Amazon rainforest in the [...]ver notícia
