At the same time, some amazing pictures have been released of lightning striking multiple lightning rods. These high-speed camera images were captured in 2022. It can be seen that two branches of the same lightning strike are running towards the earthing rods of the two buildings.

Physicist Marcelo Saba and PhD candidate Diego Ramon of Brazil’s INPE were able to capture this rare high-speed camera image of lightning, reports Science and Technology, a technology-based media outlet. The images are so unique that one image appeared on the December 28, 2022, cover of the scientific journal Geophysical Research Letters (GRL).

Physicist Marcelo Saba said the pictures were taken one summer evening from Sao Jose dos Campos in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Negatively charged lightning was moving close to the ground at a speed of about 370 kilometers per second. At such times the earthing rods on the tops of the surrounding buildings create a positive upward charge. As a result, the downward lightning is divided into several parts and connected with them.

These earthing rods thus attract the lightning and drag them to the ground. This lightning is neutralized by going to the ground. And this is how multi-storied buildings survive the damage caused by lightning.

Scientists believe that these images are a breakthrough in the study of lightning.
