Renowned scientists will meet in July for an event at the University of Campinas, where topics such as paraconsistent logics, method in interpreting logics, and artificial intelligence will be discussed
The “São Paulo School of Advanced Science on Contemporary Logic, Rationality and Information”, promoted by the Centre for Logic, Epistemology and the History of Science (CLE) of the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Brazil, will be held at UNICAMP from July 13th to 24th, 2020.
The School celebrates the 90th anniversary of Newton da Costa and aims at providing an overview of the state-of-art methodology and research on contemporary logic (featuring non-classical logics), rationality, and information. Professor Itala M. Loffredo D’Ottaviano at CLE-UNICAMP leads the organizing comittee.
Reporters are invited to register for the scientific sessions and short courses, which will present state-of-art science and results of new research.
“Unifying Defeasible Reasoning: Adaptive Logics,” with Diderik Batens, from the University of Ghent, “Argumentation-base Approaches to Paraconsistency,” with Ofer Arieli from the Academic College of Tel-Aviv, “Big Data, Information, and Ethical Issues in Artificial Reasoning,” with Maria Eunice Quilici Gonzales from São Paulo State University, and “Reasoning about Logic,” Joe Halpern from Cornell University, are some of the topics that will be covered by the School.
The São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) is supporting the event through its São Paulo School of Advanced Science Program (SPSAS). The program comprises 9 courses and 9 plenary talks delivered in English by experts in each topic, as well as oral presentations (LED Talks) and poster sessions by the students – a comprehensive list of speakers can be found at https://splogic.org/schedule.
The event will select 100 fully-funded participants (50 grantees from all states of Brazil and 50 international grantees). Funding includes airfare, medical insurance, accommodation and meals throughout the two weeks.
Undergraduate, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows (up to 5 years after completion of the Ph.D) from all countries are encouraged to apply. Application deadline is February 22, 2020.
