– Resistance training and physical exercise can alleviate symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.– The study conducted experiments on transgenic mice with beta-amyloid plaques in the brain and found that four weeks of training decreased the formation of these plaques.– Alzheimer’s disease is characterized by amyloid plaques, which can affect brain function.– The training also normalized plasma levels of corticosterone, a hormone associated with cognitive decline.– The researchers believe that the anti-inflammatory effects of resistance training may be the reason for these positive results in Alzheimer’s disease.

Resistance training and physical exercise have been found to play a role in alleviating symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, As per the analysis by researchers. A recent article published in the journal Frontiers in Neuroscience suggests that these activities have beneficial effects that can serve as a complementary treatment for the disease.

The study was conducted by Brazilian researchers from the Federal University of São Paulo and the University of São Paulo. They performed experiments on transgenic mice with a mutation responsible for the buildup of beta-amyloid plaques in the brain, a characteristic feature of Alzheimer’s disease. After four weeks of resistance training, the researchers observed a decrease in the formation of beta-amyloid plaques in the brain tissue of the mice.

Alzheimer’s disease is known for the presence of amyloid plaques, which can cause problems with brain function. Amyloid plaques are abnormal clumps of a protein called beta amyloid, along with degenerating bits of neurons and other cells, found in the tissue between nerve cells.

In addition to the reduction in beta-amyloid plaques, the researchers also found that resistance training normalized plasma levels of corticosterone in the mice. Corticosterone is a hormone equivalent to cortisol in humans, and increased cortisol levels have previously been linked to faster cognitive decline. The findings suggest that physical activity can reverse neuropathological alterations that cause clinical symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.

“This confirms that physical activity can reverse neuropathological alterations that cause clinical symptoms of the disease,” said Henrique Correia Campos, the first author of the article. The research was supported by the São Paulo Research Foundation.

The researchers believe that the anti-inflammatory effects of resistance training exercises may be a primary reason for the observed results. They suggest that resistance exercise could be an effective strategy to prevent or delay the onset of symptoms of sporadic Alzheimer’s disease, which is not directly caused by a single inherited genetic mutation and is often associated with aging.

Last but not least, resistance training and physical exercise have shown promising results in alleviating symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. The study conducted on transgenic mice with a mutation responsible for beta-amyloid plaque buildup in the brain revealed a decrease in plaque formation after four weeks of resistance training. Additionally, the training normalized plasma levels of corticosterone, a hormone associated with cognitive decline. The researchers believe that the anti-inflammatory effects of resistance training may contribute to these positive outcomes. These findings highlight the potential benefits of incorporating resistance training into the treatment and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease.
