Postdoctoral Fellow – The role of microRNAs in the regulation of GLUT4 expression in diabetes mellitus

The Laboratory of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Institute of Biomedical Sciences, University of São Paulo, Brazil, is offering post-doctorate training in the epigenetic regulation of glucose transporters, with FAPESP (São Paulo Research Foundation) financial support. Application deadline is September 10, 2017.

The scholarship is linked to the Thematic Project "Unraveling mechanisms of glycemic control and chronic complications of diabetes mellitus: contributions to human health", supported by FAPESP (#2016/15603-0), and coordinated by Dr. Ubiratan Fabres Machado. The general objective is to uncover molecular mechanisms related to glycemic control and the development of complications in patients with T1DM and/or T2DM, and includes the epigenetic regulation of glucose transporters in different tissues. Candidates must hold PhD Degree in Health Sciences, related to metabolism of carbohydrates and diabetes mellitus. The present Post-Doctorate project aims to investigate the epigenetic regulation, mediated by microRNAs, of the GLUT4 protein expression (codified by the Slc2a4 gene) in skeletal muscle of T2DM mice. Candidates must have proven experience and knowledge in evaluation and validation of microRNAs, analysis of Slc2a4/GLUT4 expression and of activity of related transcriptional factors, and evaluation of muscle metabolism in diabetes mellitus. Besides, it is also necessary to have experience in: qPCR for mRNAs and miRNAs, Western blotting, EMSA, ChIP assay, in silico analysis of miRNAs, experimental models of T1DM and T2DM. skeletal muscle electrical stimulation and incubation in vitro, and data analysis tools. Applicants must send (1) presentation letter summarizing the reason of interest in the scholarship and previous scientific experience, (2) two letters of references, and (3) a short CV (foreign applicants) or "Currículo Lattes" (Brazilians), to Dr. Ubiratan Fabres Machado:
