The Complex Fluids group of the University of São Paulo's Institute of Physics (IFUSP), offers an opportunity for a post-doctoral fellowship (financial support from the Sao Paulo Research Foundation - FAPESP), in the framework of the Thematic Project "Structural and biophysical properties of native and modified lipoproteins".
Coordinated by Professor Antonio Martins Figueiredo Neto, from the IP, the project brings together researchers from different universities and specialties in São Paulo: physics, medicine, odontology and nutrition.
The fellow will develop projects in the field of structural characterization of lipoproteins using X-ray scattering methods, linear and non-linear optical techniques. Candidate must have experience in non-linear optics techniques and/or small-angle X-ray scattering. The work has multidisciplinary characteristics insofar as the lipoproteins to be investigated will be provided by physicians and odontologists working as collaborators linked to the thematic project. In particular we are interested in the effects of the diabetes mellitus on lipoproteins, structure and function. The study of lipoproteins presents a great interface with the physico-chemistry of lyotropic liquid crystals.
The project will be developed at USP under the supervision of professors Antonio Martins Figueiredo Neto (IFUSP), Cristiano Pinto de Oliveira (IFUSP), Maria Cristina Izar (São Paulo Federal University / UNIFESP), Nágila Damasceno (University of São Paulo’s Public Health School / FSP-USP) and Maria Aparecida Neves Jardini (Sao Paulo State University's Science and Technology Institute / ICT-UNESP). Candidates should send an e-mail to (afigueiredo@if.usp.br) with his curriculum vitae (including a list of publications), a cover letter and a letter of recommendation. A distance interview will be held with the candidates.
The position is open to Brazilians and foreigners. The selected fellow will receive FAPESP Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the amount of R$ 7,174.80 (about USD 2,300.00, tax free) per month and Technical Reserve. The Technical Reserve of PD Grant is equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the scholarship and is intended to meet unforeseen expenses directly related to the research activity. The duration of the scholarship is for one year, and may be extended for another period of one year.
If the PhD grant holder lives in a different city and needs to move to São Paulo, he/she may be entitled to a grant-installation. More information about the FAPESP Postdoctoral Fellowship is available at www.fapesp.br/en/5427.
