Brazilian Researchers Find 'Terrifying' Plastic Rocks on Remote Island
Publicado em 16 março 2023The geology of Brazil’s volcanic Trindade Island has fascinated scientists for years, but the discovery of rocks made from plastic debris in this remote turtle refuge is sparking alarm. Melted plastic has become intertwined with rocks on the island, located 1,140 km (708 miles) from the southeastern state of Espirito Santo, which researchers say is evidence of humans’ growing influence over the earth’s geological cycles. “This is new and terrifying at the same time, [...]ver notícia -
Study finds How Different Smells Influence Visual Perception Of Emotions

A New Study Describes How COVID-19 Damages The Brain
Publicado em 12 agosto 2022A study shows how SARS-COV-2 infects brain cells called astrocytes, causing structural changes in the brain. Infection with SARS-CoV-2 can cause brain alterations and neurocognitive dysfunction, particularly in long COVID-19 syndrome, but the underlying mechanisms are elusive. Daniel Martins-de-Souza and colleagues used MRI to compare brain structure in 81 study participants recovering from a mild COVID-19 infection and 81 healthy individuals. The authors found that the former group [...]ver notícia -

Why Does Stress Turn Your Hair Grey? Science Has the Answer
Publicado em 23 janeiro 2020Researchers have identified for the first time the mechanism by which chronic stress causes hair colour loss, an advance that may lead to the development of novel drugs which can prevent hair from graying. In the study, published in the journal Nature, scientists induced intense pain in special black mice for several weeks using a substance called resiniferatoxin, and turned the animals' fur completely white.
