The geography of Brazil’s Trindade Island has always been the center of attraction for scientists. Because it is a volcanic island. That’s why scientists keep going to check the stones and soil here. Recently scientists have found plastic rocks on this island. (All photos: Reuters)
These plastics have melted and mixed with the stones of the island. have joined them. Making new form of stones. This island is 1140 kilometers away from Brazil’s southeastern state of Espirito Santo.
The plastic stones found here show how humans are affecting the different environment of the earth.
Geologist Fernanda Evalar Santos of the Federal University of Paraná said that it is a new and very dangerous sight that we are seeing stones made of plastic.
Fernanda told that the pollution has now reached below the ground. On investigation, it was found that these are plastiglomerates. Because they are made of particles and plastic of soil, sand and other substances.
This plastic waste came from fishing nets and other items on the coast of the island. When the temperature rises, the plastic melts and mixes with the stones. That is, with the natural things present on the island. Later it dries up and becomes a stone with them.
The problem is that Trindade Island is a conservation area for green turtles. Thousands of green turtles come here every year. lays eggs. On this island, there are only Brazilian Navy personnel in the name of humans, who work to handle and protect the nests of turtles on this island.
Fernanda Santos said that we have found these plastic stones spread over a large area. That is, the actions of humans are spoiling the nature of this island. Fernanda says that we talk too much about the Anthropocene. That is, the environment being changed by humans and its impact. But due to human activities, we are suffering a lot.
