New Study Associates Long COVID with Physical Inactivity (27 notícias)

Publicado em 13 de março de 2023

In a new study, researchers at the University of São Paulo (USP) in Brazil found COVID-19 survivors with at least one persistent symptom (long COVID) were 57% more likely to be sedentary, and the presence of five or more long COVID symptoms increased the odds of physical inactivity by 138%. The study was published in the journal Scientific Reports.

Long COVID, also called “post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2” (PASC) is defined as the illness that occurs in people who have a history of probable or confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection, usually within 3 months from the onset of COVID-19, with symptoms and effects that last for at least 2 months. According to early reports, approximately 76% of patients reported at least 1 persistent symptom 6 months following hospital discharge, with fatigue, dyspnea, cough, headache, loss of taste or smell, and cognitive or mental health impairments being the most common.
