The Natural Environment Research Council invites applications for its large grants. These support adventurous, large-scale and complex research tackling big science questions that cannot be addressed through other NERC funding schemes. Research funded via this scheme is expected to have the potential to be world-leading, and can address any area of science within the NERC remit, including strategic priorities or new curiosity-driven research challenges.
Grants range between £1.2 million and £3.7m at 100 per cent full economic cost, with a duration of up to five years.
Proposals should involve multidisciplinary approaches via inter- or intra-institutional collaboration, although this is not a requirement.
A lead principal investigator or co-ordinator will be responsible for the overall science and management plans.
Proposals may use agreements between NERC and other funders such as National Science Foundation and São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) to help secure funding for international collaborations.
