The Faculty of Medicine of the Federal University of Medicine of Minas Gerais (UFMG) started this Friday (25) the clinical studies of the first national vaccine against covid-19. The SpiN-Tec MCTI UFMG immunization is the first developed with national technology and inputs, in addition to being financed with resources from Brazilian institutions.
According to Agência Brasil, during an event held in Belo Horizonte, the Secretary of Research and Scientific Training of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), Marcelo Morales, administered the first dose of the vaccine to one of the 1,000 volunteers who signed up. to participate in the tests.
The tests will be carried out in three phases that will bring together 72, 360 and 5 thousand volunteers, respectively. Upon completion of the first two, a report with the results obtained will be sent to the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) for authorization of the next phase.
The clinical trials are coordinated by professor Helton Santiago, from the Institute of Biological Sciences (ICB), and by professor Jorge Andrade Pinto, from the Vaccine Clinical Research Unit (UPqVac).
