Study of dune dynamics will help scientists understand the topography of Mars
Publicado em 16 dezembro 2020
Barchans are crescent-shaped sand dunes whose two horns face in the direction of the fluid flow. They appear in different environments, such as inside water pipes or on river beds, where they take the form of ten-centimeter ripples, and deserts, where they can exceed 100 meters, and the surface of Mars, where they can be a kilometer in length or more. If their size varies greatly, so does the time they take to form and interact. The orders of magnitude range from a minute for small barchans in [...]

Research helps in understanding the dynamics of dune formation
Publicado em 27 novembro 2018Studies of crescent-shaped dunes by Brazilian researchers could have applications in crude oil pumping and missions to Mars, among others. New findings have been published in Physical Review Letters. Crescent-shaped dunes called barchans are structures that appear in a wide variety of environments, including beaches and deserts, riverbeds and the seafloor, inside water pipes and oil pipelines, and on the surface of Mars and other sandy planets with an atmosphere. Despite differences in scale [...]ver notícia
