Nanostructured Material with Potential for Use in Catalyzers
Publicado em 31 agosto 2019
Titanium oxide (TiO2) nanofibers can have various applications, such as in catalyzers and filters. When TiO2 is excited by ultraviolet light, it degrades organic material. Hence, TiO2 can be applied to filter wastewater for reuse, for example.
A new method of fabricating these fibers has been developed in Brazil by Rodrigo Savio Pessoa and Bruno Manzolli Rodrigues, researchers at the Aeronautical Technology Institute's Plasma and Process Laboratory (LPP-ITA) and the Science and Technology [...]

Technique combats widespread passion fruit disease
Publicado em 28 agosto 2019Passion fruit woodiness caused by cowpea aphid-borne mosaic virus (CABMV), the disease that most affects passion fruit (Passiflora edulis) grown in Brazil, can be treated with a relatively simple technique, according to a study published in the journal Plant Pathology. It shows that systematic eradication of plants with symptoms of the disease preserves the crop as a whole and keeps plants producing for at least 25 months. The technique currently used to combat CABMV entails renewing the [...]ver notícia -
Thyme essential oil in corn starch particles combats Aedes aegypti larvae
Publicado em 25 agosto 2019Corn starch, an abundant, cheap and biodegradable raw material, is the basis for a novel larvicide developed by researchers at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in So Paulo State, Brazil. The material is used in microcapsules for storage and controlled release of active compounds to kill larvae of Aedes aegypti, the mosquito that transmits dengue, zika, yellow fever and chikungunya. A patent application has been filed via UNICAMP’s innovation agency (Inova). The methodology is [...]ver notícia
