São Paulo declared a state of emergency in public health on Wednesday (19), in response to the alarming dengue outbreak that plagues the state.
The decision, announced by the state secretary of health, Eleuses Paiva, at the Butantan Institute, reflects the seriousness of the situation, with numbers that concern the authorities and the population.
Dengue makes more than 100 victims and cases shoot
The state of São Paulo concentrates 90% of dengue deaths recorded in the country, with 113 confirmed deaths and another 233 under investigation. The number of confirmed cases already exceeds the 124,000 mark, reaching 225 municipalities, of which 60 had already declared an emergency at the municipal level.
The incidence of the disease is 300 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, an alarming index that shows the rapid propagation of the virus.
The situation is even more critical compared to national data. According to the Ministry of Health, Brazil already records 131 deaths by dengue in 2025, a worrying number that places the country on maximum alert. In 2024, the disease caused 6,216 deaths in Brazil, with 2,174 in the state of São Paulo alone.
Given this scenario, the state government took urgent measures to contain the epidemic. The Emergency Operations Center for Arboviruses (COE), a collegiate that brings together experts and authorities, recommended the emergency decree and the adoption of emergency actions.
Among the measures announced, they stand out:
Reinforcement in the combat of the Aedes aegypti mosquito: expansion of vector combating actions, with intensification of nebulization and elimination of breeding sites. Increased transfer of resources for care: 20% increase in the MAC ceiling (medium and high complexity) to fund the treatment of serious patients in the Unified Health System (SUS). Distribution of equipment and inputs: release of R $ 3 million for the purchase of nebulizers and distribution of medicines and health items, such as salts of oral rehydration and saline, to municipalities with supply difficulties. Intensification of awareness campaigns: expansion of communication actions to alert the population about the importance of preventing and combating mosquito, highlighting the dengue 100 doubts and the São Paulo campaign: we are all against the dengue mosquito. In addition to dengue, the state of Sao Paulo also faces an increase in cases of yellow fever, with 15 confirmed cases and 9 deaths in 2025. The situation requires special attention, especially in rural areas and among non -vaccinated people.
