IBM announced Tuesday it would create an artificial intelligence research center in Brazil in partnership with the São Paulo State Research Foundation (Fapesp). The effort will receive funding of $20 million over a decade with IBM and Fapesp initially splitting half of the amount, but universities interested in joining the initiative could also help pay for it. Ulisses Mello, the head of IBM’s existing research operations in Brazil, says the work will include both basic and applied research.
