How can we prevent stress in the car?
Stress while driving increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and sudden cardiac complications. If the right music is heard while driving, this risk can be minimized, as a recent study suggests.
A recent study by São Paulo State University (UNESP) in Brazil found that listening to music while driving is the right thing to do, which can lead to cardiovascular disease. The results of the study were published in the English-language journal Supplementary Therapies in Medicine
Instrumental music protects our hearts from stress
Stress while driving is an important risk factor for the development of cardiovascular disease and sudden cardiac complications emergency prevention measures. The results of this study show that instrumental music contributes to reducing the risk of driving while in a car.
8 and 23. Women did not drive very often, had a driver's license from one to seven years old, and were otherwise perfectly healthy.
Participants drove a car relatively infrequently
There were additional women who did not drive much because people who drive frequently and have a long-term driving license are better used for stressful traffic situations. Women were evaluated on two days, in different situations and at random.
How did the survey go?
One day, women were driving 20 minutes an hour (17: 30-18: 30) on a three-kilometer stretch in a busy area of Marilia, a medium-sized town in the city northwest of Sao Paulo, without listening to music. On another day, participants were traveling the same route at the same time of the day, but were listening to instrumental music. To increase the level of stress, women were asked not to use their own car.
What Affects Heart Rate Variability?
Heart rate variability is assessed by measuring heart rate variability using a heart rate monitor. Defined as fluctuations in the interval between successive heart attacks, heart rate variability is affected by the autonomic nervous system.
How Does the Nervous System Affect the Heart Rate?
The more active is the so-called sympathetic nervous system, the faster the heart beats while the heart beats. the parasympathetic nervous system tends to slow down heart activity. Increased activity of the sympathetic nervous system decreases the variability of the heart rate, while the more intense activity of the parasympathetic nervous system increases them.
What can be observed?
Analysis shows a decrease in heart rate variability in women engaged in non-music, which indicates a lower level of activity of the parasympathetic nervous system. Conversely, heart rate variability has increased among music listeners, which indicates that – high activity of the parasympathetic nervous system and reduction of the activity of the sympathetic nervous system.
