Scientists working on converting methane into fuel
Publicado em 05 agosto 2022
PARIS: Capture one of the most powerful greenhouse gases and convert it into biodiesel, while reducing the energy costs of the process: this is a project that a team of Brazilian researchers is currently working on.
While carbon dioxide is likely the first gas that comes to mind when we talk about global warming, methane is also highly problematic.
Emissions from this powerful greenhouse gas are 25 times more potent than those of CO2 when it comes to trapping heat in the atmosphere.

Biodegradable packaging possible from industrial waste
Publicado em 19 dezembro 2020BRASILIA: Plastic, the star material of the 1950s, is now public enemy number one for the planet in terms of polluting materials. Still widely used in our day-to-day lives, plastic continues to poison the environment. However, teams throughout the science world are exploring more eco-friendly alternatives. Chemists in Brazil, for example, are using industrial waste to make a biodegradable film suitable for food packaging. Based at São Paulo State University (UNESP), the scientists [...]ver notícia -
Amazon city may have reached ‘herd immunity’ against Covid-19
Publicado em 23 setembro 2020SAO PAULO: The Brazilian city of Manaus, which was devastated by the coronavirus pandemic, may have suffered so many infections that its population now benefits from “herd immunity”, according to a preliminary study. Published on the website medRxiv, the study analysed infection data with mathematical modelling to estimate that 66% of the population had antibodies to the new coronavirus in Manaus, where the pandemic’s passage was as fast as it was brutal. That may be [...]ver notícia
