FAPESP (São Paulo State Research Support Foundation) announced the opening of the third call for proposals for the creation of Science Centers for Development (CCDs), with a total value of R$150 million. Proposals must be submitted by the Management Support System (SAGe) by November 28th.

The notice will select research projects with social, technological and economic impact, lasting up to five years, to be carried out by teams from research institutes, universities or higher education institutions in the State of São Paulo, in partnership with government bodies, articulated in Science for Development Centers. The maximum amount of support per project is R$2 million annually.

Proposals must present research projects oriented to well-specified problems and with social and/or economic relevance for the State of São Paulo.

The call brings a list of strategic themes, suggested by public bodies (listed in Annex 1 of the notice), such as the State Attorney General’s Office; Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation; Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply; Department of Health; Secretariat for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities; Secretariat of Urban Development and Housing and Secretariat of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics.

It is possible to submit proposals that address other topics relevant to scientific and technological development, but in this case, those that meet all the other requirements specified in the notice will be considered for evaluation.

In the first two calls of the program (launched in 2019 and 2021), 28 CCDs were selected and implemented, operating on a co-financing model, with research in the areas of health, energy, agriculture, advanced manufacturing, smart cities, public safety and the environment
