EU ACCESS for research jobs

Publicado em 28 novembro 2014

New academic opportunities in Brazil are gaining greater impact by being displayed on the European Commission’s EURAXESS “Researchers in Motion” online jobs portal, regularly visited by scientists from more than 40 countries.

EURAXESS was originally designed as a European Research Area (ERA) initiative providing access to a complete range of information and support services for European and non-European researchers wishing to pursue research careers in Europe.

The EURAXESS Links function is a networking tool for European researchers working outside Europe and non-European ones wishing to collaborate and/or pursue a research career in Europe. EURAXESS Links is established in four ASEAN countries (i.e. Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand), China, India, Japan North America, and now, Brazil.

Opportunities for post-doctoral, doctoral research and other high-level research postings at universities and institutions in the state of São Paulo can now be tracked on EURAXESS – provided these receive grant funding from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), which has just  joined the system.

FAPESP is Brazil’s most dynamic regional research funding organization, with an annual budget of over US$500 million. It and already has links with leading research councils in the world’s key science nations, as well as partnership ties with leading universities.

EURAXESS is a public access programme is managed by the EC’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation. Its mission is to develop and implement the European research and innovation policy with a view to achieving the goals of Europe 2020 and the Innovation Union.

DG Research and Innovation under Robert-Jan Smits supports research and innovation through European Framework Programmes, coordinates and supports national and regional research and innovation programmes, contributes to the creation of the European Research Area by developing the conditions for researchers and knowledge to circulate freely, and supports European organisations and researchers in their cooperation at international level.

Providing much greater global visibility for local research opportunities will advance FAPESP’s declared goal of internationalizing Brazilian science. Already, FAPESP conducts international “roadshows” to publicize the advantages for international researchers of taking up visit fellowships in Brazil, or collaborating with local scientists.

EURAXESS Links has local representatives in Brazil. Their job will be to keep the main platform updated with local opportunities, but also to foster dialogue with European Commission institutions.
