Is Another Pandemic On The Horizon? New Coronavirus Found In Brazilian Bats
Publicado em 18 de março de 2025
A new coronavirus has been found in bats in Brazil, and scientists are now working to determine whether it could infect humans. The virus was discovered in the Ceará state and is closely related to MERS-CoV. Researchers from Brazil and Hong Kong University (HKU) identified the virus in samples taken from bats. MERS-CoV is the virus responsible for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), a disease that has caused outbreaks in the past.

High Blood Pressure Affects Breathing Capacity But Physical Activity Can Help: Study
Publicado em 17 outubro 2024New Delhi: High blood pressure impairs one's breathing capacity by hardening the airways in the respiratory system, thereby increasing resistance, a study has found. However, being physically active can help by improving the functioning of respiratory muscles, resulting in better coordination between ventilation and blood flow in the lungs, researchers from the Federal University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, found. Hypertension, in which one's blood pressure remains unusually high, is known [...]ver notícia -

MicroRNAs in blood linked with mental health disorder, could serve as biomarkers
Publicado em 04 maio 2023New Delhi, May 4 (PTI) Researchers have analysed microRNAs in extracellular vesicles (EVs), produced by most cells in the body including neurons and other nervous system cells, and found them to be associated with mental health disorders. The study by researchers at the Federal University of Sao Paulo (UNIFESP) in Brazil is published in the journal Translational Psychiatry. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small transcripts that target messenger RNAs and regulate the expression of several genes at [...]ver notícia -
Model created using AI and tweets to help early detection of mental disorders
Publicado em 11 abril 2023The findings are published in the journal Language Resources and Evaluation. While there are multiple studies involving natural language processing (NLP) focussed on depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder, most of these analysed English texts and did not match Brazilians' profiles, the researchers said. The first step in this study involved constructing a database, called SetembroBR, of information relating to a corpus of 47 million publicly posted Portuguese texts and the network [...]ver notícia -

Fat around organs more susceptible to severe Covid than fat under skin: Study
Publicado em 07 dezembro 2022Scientists have found that the fat around the liver, intestines and other organs, or visceral fat, contributes more towards severe COVID-19 than does subcutaneous fat, or fat under the skin as in “love handles”, according to a study. Visceral fat is usually considered a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, diabetes and high blood pressure. The researchers at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) and the University of Sao Paulo (USP) also found that when visceral [...]ver notícia -
Covid infection changes genetic material of cells : Study
Publicado em 11 novembro 2022Washington: Scientists have shown for the first time that infection by SARS-CoV-2 changes the functioning of host cell RNA, according to a study. The scientists at the Federal University of Sao Paulo (UNIFESP), Brazil, arrived at this conclusion by analysing thirteen datasets obtained during four studies of viral, human and animal cell RNA. RNA in a cell, or Ribonucleic Acid, just like DNA, stores genetic information. RNA transmits genetic information from DNA to the cytoplasm, the external [...]ver notícia -
