Large brain of foetus could be hint of severe autism: Study
Publicado em 18 junho 2024
New Delhi, Jun 18 (PTI) Unusually higher levels of grey matter in foetuses during the first trimester of pregnancy could signal severe autism, marked by lifelong difficulties in social and cognitive skills and possibly not being able to speak, according to a new study.
Researchers said that the biological basis differentiating mild and severe (or profound) autism in children develops in the first weeks and months in their embryo stages, which immediately follows conception.

Study gives insight into significance of genetic sequencing to diagnosis of growth disorders
Publicado em 18 fevereiro 2024Sao Paulo [Brazil], February 17 (ANI): Brazilian researchers described the case of a nine-year-old boy admitted to the hospital with multiple symptoms and overlapping conditions that made diagnosis difficult, including short stature, thin tooth enamel (dental enamel hypoplasia), moderate mental deficiency, speech delay, asthma, mildly altered blood sugar, and a history of recurring infections in infancy. The article was published in the Journal of Pediatrics. The scientists searched for [...]ver notícia -

MicroRNAs in blood can tell a story about our mental health: Study
Publicado em 10 maio 2023New Delhi: Researchers have analysed microRNAs in extracellular vesicles (EVs), produced by most cells in the body including neurons and other nervous system cells, and found them to be associated with mental health disorders. The study by researchers at the Federal University of Sao Paulo (UNIFESP) in Brazil is published in the journal Translational Psychiatry. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small transcripts that target messenger RNAs and regulate the expression of several genes at once. They can [...]ver notícia -

Poor diet linked to 14 million cases of type 2 diabetes globally: Study
Publicado em 18 abril 2023New Delhi, April 18 - Poor diet contributed to over 14.1 million cases of type 2 diabetes in 2018, representing over 70 per cent of new diagnoses globally, according to a study. Of the 30 most populated countries studied, India, Nigeria, and Ethiopia had the fewest case of type 2 diabetes related to unhealthy eating, the researchers said. The analysis, published in the journal Nature Medicine, looked at data from 1990 and 2018, providing valuable insight into which dietary factors are [...]ver notícia -
Study reveals how low-cost sensor detects early-stage of Parkinson's disease
Publicado em 14 abril 2023Sau Paulo: An electrochemical sensor that can identify Parkinson's disease at various stages has been created by researchers at the Federal University of So Carlos (UFSCar) and the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in Brazil. The gadget was created using a standard 3D printer and showed early disease detection capabilities, serving as a model for the detection of other diseases, according to the study. Findings in the journal published in the journal Sensors and Actuators B: [...]ver notícia -
Model created using AI and tweets to help early detection of mental disorders
Publicado em 11 abril 2023The findings are published in the journal Language Resources and Evaluation. While there are multiple studies involving natural language processing (NLP) focussed on depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder, most of these analysed English texts and did not match Brazilians' profiles, the researchers said. The first step in this study involved constructing a database, called SetembroBR, of information relating to a corpus of 47 million publicly posted Portuguese texts and the network [...]ver notícia -
Covid virus can be detected in tears sampled by ocular swab: Study
Publicado em 18 fevereiro 2023A team of researchers found that the coronavirus that causes Covid-19 can be detected in tears sampled by ocular swabs, a new study has shown. The researchers analysed samples from patients diagnosed with the disease by conventional methods and admitted to the Hospital, according to the study published in the Journal of Clinical Medicine. SARS-CoV-2 was detected in 18.2 per cent of the samples, suggesting this method could be an alternative to the conventional swabbing method, which is [...]ver notícia
