Campinas, February 24, 2023 - The Embrapii Competence Center in Open RAN (Open Radio Access Networks), installed at CPQD, in Campinas (SP), will have additional resources for the development of projects in this area of important technological frontier for the Brazil. The new resources will come from the Technical Cooperation Agreement between Embrapii (Brazilian Industrial Research and Innovation Company) and FAPESP - São Paulo State Research Support Foundation, signed on Wednesday, 02/21, and will be applied over 42 months.
Under the agreement, FAPESP will allocate 60 million reais to projects developed at the Open RAN Competence Center, which will be added to Embrapii's planned contribution of 60 million reais - coming from the PPI IoT/Manufacturing 4.0 Priority Program - in the 3.5-year period. “These additional resources will enable the execution of complementary projects involving Open RAN technology, which will be submitted for FAPESP approval and developed in accordance with this foundation's funding modalities,” explains Paulo Curado, director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at CPQD.
CPQD was selected in May last year as manager of the Embrapii Competence Center in Open RAN, an area in which it has been working since 2018. The focus of this Center is the development of open technologies for the infrastructure of telecommunications networks, reducing dependence on proprietary solutions - and from few suppliers. “The intention is to allow the combination of technological solutions, regardless of the supplier, based on open specifications. This will pave the way for the emergence of new companies in the segment and will allow network operators to use solutions and components from different suppliers,” said Gustavo Corrêa Lima, Connectivity Solutions Manager at CPQD.
