Brazilian ants, plants help each other
Publicado em 18 julho 2019
Biologists Laura Carolina Leal and Felipe Passos performed a series of experiments in Brazil’s Northeast region — specifically in the interior of Bahia State, where the semiarid Caatinga biome predominates — to determine how plants with extrafloral nectaries interact with ants.

Ancient trilobites, new study
Publicado em 11 janeiro 2019The first appearance of trilobites in the fossil record dates to 521 million years ago in the oceans of the Cambrian Period, when the continents were still inhospitable to most life forms. Few groups of animals adapted as successfully as trilobites, which were arthropods that lived on the seabed for 270 million years until the mass extinction at the end of the Permian approximately 252 million years ago. The longer ago organisms lived, the more rare are their fossils and the harder it is to [...]ver notícia -
Brazil’s oldest mammal named after David Bowie
Publicado em 11 junho 2018Summary: Brasilestes stardusti lived around 70 million years ago and was named after Ziggy Stardust, the singer’s iconic persona. Description was based on a fossilized tooth. It’s the 1st indication that placental mammals and dinosaurs co-existed in South America. For scientists, fossil features showed similarities with another pre-historic mammal found in India, suggesting both shared a common ancestral native from the Gondwana supercontinent. Brasilestes stardusti is the name given to [...]ver notícia
