Low-Cost Sensor Detects Parkinson’s Earlier in Biological Samples
Publicado em 13 abril 2023
Researchers at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) and the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar) in Brazil have developed an electrochemical sensor that detects Parkinson’s disease at different stages.
The device was fabricated using an ordinary 3D printer and proved capable of early diagnosis, also serving as a model for the identification of other diseases, according to an article published in the journal Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical.
“The sensor rapidly [...]

COVID Can be Detected in Tears Sampled by Ocular Swab
Publicado em 16 fevereiro 2023Research led by scientists at the University of São Paulo (USP) in Brazil has found that the coronavirus that causes COVID can be detected in tears collected by swabbing. The researchers analyzed samples from patients diagnosed with the disease by conventional methods and admitted to the Hospital for Rehabilitation of Craniofacial Anomalies (HRAC) run by the Bauru Dental School (FOB-USP). SARS-CoV-2 was detected in 18.2% of the samples, suggesting this method could be an [...]ver notícia -
Novel Device Detects COVID Antibodies in Five Minutes
Publicado em 30 novembro 2022Brazilian scientists have developed an electrochemical immunosensor device that detects antibodies against COVID. The innovation is described in an article published recently in the journal ACS Biomaterials Science and Engineering. In search of a novel diagnostic method, the group opted for a material frequently used in metallurgy—zinc oxide—and combined it for the first time with fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) glass, a conductive material used in electrodes for photovoltaics and [...]ver notícia -
Rapid COVID-19 Diagnostic Test Delivers Fast, Accurate Results
Publicado em 12 maio 2021A low-cost, rapid diagnostic test for COVID-19 developed by Penn Medicine provides COVID-19 results within four minutes with 90% accuracy. A paper published this week in Matter details the fast and inexpensive diagnostic test, called Real-time Accurate Portable Impedimetric Detection prototype 1.0 or RAPID 1.0. Compared to existing methods for COVID-19 detection, RAPID is inexpensive and highly scalable, allowing the production of millions of units per week. Despite the urgency of the [...]ver notícia
