Brazilian Biotech Company Targeting Citrus Pathogens
Publicado em 13 de junho de 2025
With support from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), Ideelab is developing more efficient strategies to combat pathogens that threaten citrus.
The work of Ideelab, a São Paulo startup company, is based on the principle that plants communicate with microorganisms through specific molecules called effectors. Effectors are peptides and proteins that are produced naturally and interact with the pattern recognition receptors of cultivars.

Top Pruning Evaluated as HLB Strategy
Publicado em 30 outubro 2024A Brazilian study evaluated the effects of top pruning on orange trees located on the edges of an orchard as part of an HLB management strategy. The pruning was an attempt to attract the HLB-spreading psyllid from external areas to the orchard edges and control it, reducing its dispersion into the orchard. Fundecitrus and Embrapa Cassava and Fruits conducted the research, and the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and Fundecitrus financed it. An article about the study, Topping [...]ver notícia -

Greening Addressed at International Epidemiology Workshop
Publicado em 03 maio 2024Fundecitrus researchers Renato Bassanezi and Silvio Lopes in April addressed the citrus greening situation in Brazil from an epidemiological point of view during the International Epidemiology Workshop held in Brazil. Lopes presented work on the potential of citrus plants in backyards being a source of Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (the bacterium associated with greening) inoculum for commercial orchards. Fundecitrus has been working on this topic for some time. Since 2018, external [...]ver notícia
