Covid patients dying of unique fungus, researchers begin probe
Publicado em 19 julho 2020A team of researchers has for the first time discovered hybrid fungus involved in lung infections and are investigating the role of fungi in Covid-19. Several Covid-19 patients have died owing to concomitant infection by Aspergillus. Aspergillus latus, a species of fungus previously found only in soil or plants, has been found for the first time in a hospital environment by an international group of researchers. Lipid in humans can help control blood sugar
Publicado em 29 setembro 2019Sao Paulo : A team of global researchers has discovered that a lipid — produced in response to cold by brown adipose tissue in the human body — helps reduce blood sugar. The discovery with the lipid known as 12-HEPE can pave the way for new treatments for diabetes, said the team from Brazil, the US and Germany. The group also observed that a drug used to treat urinary dysfunction increases the amount of 12-HEPE released into the bloodstream in human patients. White adipose [...]ver notícia -
Low-calorie diet may improve cell performance
Publicado em 13 fevereiro 2019Sao Paulo, Feb 13 (IANS) Consuming low-calorie food may have a protective effect against some diseases as the number of calories a person eats directly influences the performance of various cells, researchers say. The study on mice showed that a low-calorie diet can protect the brain from neuronal cell death associated with diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, epilepsy and cerebral vascular accident (CVA). “We are looking at how changes to the diet affect metabolism and how that [...]ver notícia -
Daily exercise helps remove toxic proteins from muscles
Publicado em 30 setembro 2018Sao Paulo, Sep 30 (IANS) Regular exercise helps in removing toxic proteins in muscle cells that can lead to atrophy and muscle weakness, says a new study. The study, published in the journal Scientific Reports, showed that the lack of muscle stimulus results in a build-up of inadequately processed proteins in muscle cells. “Daily exercise sensitises the autophagic system, facilitating the elimination of proteins and organelles that aren’t functional in the muscles,” said one of the [...]ver notícia -
