The Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) begins to apply today (25) the first vaccine against Covid-19 entirely produced in Brazil. This will be the first phase of clinical studies in humans from SpiN-Tec MCTI UFMG. The dose will be applied at the Faculty of Medicine of UFMG and will be transmitted via Federal channel on Youtube.
SpiN-Tec was developed with totally national technology and inputs, in a partnership between UFMG and Fundação Oswaldo Cruz. The vaccine was prepared at the Federal Vaccine Technology Center (CTVacinas) and had the financial support of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), the Belo Horizonte City Hall, the Legislative Assembly and parliamentary amendments from the federal and state, among other sources.
The first dose will be administered by the Secretary of Research and Scientific Training at the MCTI, Marcelo Morales. The ceremony will also count on the presence of the Dean of UFMG, Sandra Regina Goulart Almeida, Minister Paulo Alvim and researchers linked to the CTVacinas teams, responsible for the development of the immunizer, and for the clinical trials, the first two phases of which will be carried out at the Unit of Clinical Research on Vaccines (UPqVac) of the Faculty of Medicine.
