The “B” and the “C” in BRIC scientific cooperation are to be highlighted April 15th-18th when researchers from China and Brazil meet in the Chinese capital for a high-level symposium.

The event will take place at Peking University (also known as Běidà) and will strengthen the strategic ties between China and Brazil in science and technology. It expands existing relationships between researchers from the state of São Paulo and those from research institutions in China.
Senior officials from China’s Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and Technology will attend the event. There are Conference modules for:
- Materials and Nano Sciences
- Environmental Sciences
- Renewable Energy Sciences
- Agricultural and Biological Sciences
- Medical and Life Sciences

On the Chinese side, significant investments in science and technology are transforming the country into a global leader for research. Peking University (founded in 1898) is a national key university and incorporates Beijing Medical Hospital with a string of affiliated hospitals and teaching hospitals.
FAPESP is Brazil’s leading regional research council, supporting scientific and other research at institutions in São Paulo state with taxpayer-funded grants. As well as being the nation’s economic powerhouse, São Paulo also produces around half of Brazil’s PhDs and their published scientific research.
“Past FAPESP Weeks have established opportunities for international collaborative projects, so we hope to forge ties with researchers in China, especially those at Peking University, which is responsible for a significant share of Chinese scientific production,” said FAPESP scientific director Carlos Henrique de Brito Cruz.
Since 2012, the Foundation has held similar scientific symposia in Washington, DC, Morgantown, Cambridge, Charlotte, Chapel Hill, and Raleigh (US), Toronto (Canada), Salamanca, Madrid (Spain), Tokyo (Japan) and London (United Kingdom).
