Fundacao de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado de Sao Paulo or Sao Paulo Research Foundation reports on a study revealing that the major bivalent COVID-19 vaccine induces production of neutralizing antibodies against the coronavirus that circulated at the start of the pandemic as well as subvariants of omicron, albeit less abundantly. The study outcome was reported in the Journal of Medical Virology.
The primary goal of the study remained the original strain that predominated at the start of the pandemic, and the resulting competition limited medium- to long-term immunity against more recent variants, which are now more important epidemiologically.
