In partnership with the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) this event aims to promote and highlight the expanded cooperation on science and innovation between the United States and Brazil. The event will feature collaborative research projects led by scientists in the state of São Paulo, Brazil and in the United States, targeting the discovery of new science about the Amazon, low carbon economy, and preservation and recovery of biodiversity.
In 2021, FAPESP led the creation of the Amazon +10 Fund, a joint initiative by São Paulo and nine other states – Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima and Tocantins – to develop science, technology, and innovation in the Amazon region. State secretaries of science and technology from all ten states, alongside representatives of their research funding agencies (FAPs) created the initiative oriented to biodiversity conservation and climate change, protection of traditional populations and communities, urban challenges, and the bioeconomy as a policy for economic development in the Amazon.
