Benefits to animals, producers and consumers: alternative therapies in milk production and quality are studied at IZ (13 notícias)

Publicado em 24 de junho de 2022

The Institute of Animal Science (IZ-APTA), Secretary of Agriculture and Supply of the State of São Paulo, delivered technology to the producer and society that brings benefits to the entire milk production chain. With IZ’s new technology, consumers, increasingly demanding for healthy products since before the gate, and rural producers, who will have a solution to the challenges encountered, win. The IZ technological delivery webinar is available on Fundag’s YouTube channel.

The opening of the Technological Delivery, referring to “Alternative Therapies for Improving Milk Production and Quality”, was attended by the general director of the IZ, Enilson Geraldo Ribeiro, and the researcher, João Jose A. Demarchi, deputy director of the Center of Dairy Cattle Research.

The director general of the IZ highlighted the work carried out at the Institute’s Research Centers and Laboratories, which are included in three strategic areas: Sustainable Beef Production, Sustainable Milk Production and Integrated Agricultural Production Systems – technologies and services available to agribusiness paulista, emphasizing on this day the activities in the milk area.

Luiz Carlos Roma Jr, director of the IZ Dairy Cattle Development Research Center, began the lectures by presenting the principles, actions and results of the research line on alternative therapies, in addition to the results of the FAPESP Phytotherapy and Mastitis Control project.

For Roma, with this technological delivery, the producer has an alternative available to achieve the desired quality of his product. “The search for quality must always be the focus and, in this case, it is also possible with alternative therapy”.

Speaker Livia Castelani, PhD in microbiology, commented on the lines of research at the IZ, with the alternative therapies being studied. Both ended by answering about what the producer can expect and made final remarks on the matter.

Livia points out that this technique brings advantages to the consumer of the product, as the search is aimed at “producing a better quality and microbiologically safe food, free of antibiotic residues”.

Trainings

IZ maintains online the manual “10 Tips for Improving Milk Quality”, which can help dairy farmers improve quality and increase milk production and profitability. These tips range from fundamental facility features, as well as good milking hygiene practices, to milking equipment maintenance and record keeping.

The Milk Quality Reference Laboratory of the Instituto de Zootecnia has developed research projects, aiming at improving the production and quality of milk, in addition to the partnership with the Integral Technical Assistance Coordination (CATI), for the transfer of generated technologies directly to the producer. .

Several courses, lectures, field days, practical training, to present the results of the Institute’s research to producers, were carried out with a focus on milk production and quality. Many results have already been found, such as improved hygienic quality, mastitis control and even increased milk production.

SAA technology deliveries

To make the technologies generated by scientific research available to the productive sector, the Technological Deliveries program of the State of São Paulo Government was created. By the end of 2022, the six Institutes and 18 Regional Research Poles linked to the São Paulo Agribusiness Technology Agency (APTA), of the Secretariat, will make 200 technologies available to the entire agro production chain.
