Early stages of Parkinson's disease can be traced through sensor: Study
Publicado em 15 abril 2023Sau Paulo [Brazil], April 15 (ANI): Researchers at the Federal University of So Carlos (UFSCar) and the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in Brazil invented an electrochemical sensor that can identify Parkinson's disease at various stages. The gadget was created using a standard 3D printer and showed early disease detection capabilities, serving as a model for the detection of other diseases, according to the study. Findings in the journal published in the journal Sensors and Actuators [...]ver notícia -
Study reveals how low-cost sensor detects early-stage of Parkinson's disease

Teens who use smartphones for more than 3 hours a day suffer more from back pain
Publicado em 07 abril 2023Washington, April 7: Because of the popularity of smartphones and tablets, as well as the growth of television channels, computer games, and educational applications, children and teenagers are spending more amount of time gazing at screens, sometimes with poor posture, which can lead to back pain and other issues. A study by Brazilian researchers, funded by FAPESP and reported in an article published in the scientific journal Healthcare, identified several risk factors for spinal health, [...]ver notícia -
Dinosaurs' hollow bones that made them giants evolved independently at least three times: Research
Publicado em 08 março 2023Washington [US], March 8 (ANI): Dinosaurs as big as buses or five-story buildings would not be possible if their bones were dense and heavy like ours. Like present-day birds, dinosaurs had hollow bones with inner structures known as air sacs, which made their skeletons lighter and less dense. These structures were apparently so advantageous that they emerged at least three times during the evolution of dinosaurs and pterosaurs (flying reptiles), according to a study supported by FAPESP and [...]ver notícia -
Daily Rhythm Detected For Cerebral Blood Flow In Stroke Patients
Publicado em 18 fevereiro 2023Washington: Strokes are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States and globally. Several environmental and biological factors are known to influence stroke risk and outcome. A new study led by investigators from Brigham and Women's Hospital, a founding member of the Mass General Brigham healthcare system, analyzed the cerebral blood flow (CBF) regulation of individuals who had experienced strokes. The team found that cerebral autoregulation (CA) -- one of the key [...]ver notícia -
Sugar Consumption, Early Interruption of Breastfeeding Are Risk Factors for Dental Caries: Study
Publicado em 07 fevereiro 2023Washington [US], February 7 (ANI): A study involving 800 children has shown the inclusion of sugar in their diet and early interruption of breastfeeding to be the main factors that contribute to the appearance of dental caries by age 2. The study was published in the journal 'Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology'. Research explores how exercise preserves physical fitness during aging
Publicado em 06 janeiro 2023Washington [US], January 6 (ANI): Exercise may be the most powerful anti-aging intervention known to science and has been proven to protect against a wide array of diseases. However, while physical activity can improve health during aging, its beneficial effects inevitably decline. The cellular mechanisms underlying the relationship between exercise, fitness, and aging remain poorly understood. In a paper published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers at [...]ver notícia -
New gadget identifies COVID-19 antibodies in five minutes
Publicado em 29 novembro 2022Rapid, low-cost, and accurate tests are still required for epidemiological surveillance and healthcare services to monitor and contain the spread of SARS-CoV-2. Brazilian researchers have contributed to this field’s efforts by creating an electrochemical immunosensor that identifies antibodies against the virus. The innovation is described in an article published in the journal ACS Biomaterials Science and Engineering. In search of a novel diagnostic method, the group opted for a [...]ver notícia -
New research adds to understanding of genetic factors that naturally protect people from COVID-19
Publicado em 22 novembro 2022Two recent papers by Brazilian researchers have added to the scientific understanding of the genetic factors that protect people from SARS-CoV-2 infection or prevent progression to severe Covid-19. The first describes the findings of a study involving a group of resilient older people aged 90 or more, while the second examines a case of severe Covid-19 in identical twins, only one of whom had long-term symptoms of the disease. Since 2020, researchers in several countries, including Brazil, [...]ver notícia
