30-minute exercise session may reduce blood pressure in rheumatoid arthritis (75 notícias)

A new study from the University of São Paulo, Brazil suggests that 30 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise can lower systolic blood pressure in women with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Hypertension is a particular risk for people with RA, who have a 48% higher risk of dying from cardiovascular disease compared to the general population. RA is an autoimmune inflammatory disease that causes inflammation and painful swelling in multiple joints. The study found that aerobic exercise can result in a permanent lowering of systolic blood pressure, although it had no effect on diastolic blood pressure. The researchers observed that exercise promotes relaxation of the blood vessels, leading to vasodilation and a decrease in blood pressure. The temporary improvements in blood pressure after exercise may become more permanent with regular exercise. However, it is unclear whether similar results would be observed in men with RA. The study highlights the potential benefits of exercise as an intervention for people with RA, particularly for managing hypertension and reducing the risk of cardiovascular events. sources
